What finishing options can I have on a fire rated timber door?

At Modulo, we understand that architects need a wide range of finishing options when specifying a fire rated timber door. Our doorsets are suitable for a range of projects from residential to retrofit and commercial. To simplify specification for architects, we have a huge range of finishes to choose from to help achieve the design aspirations for the projects they are working on. This blog will go over the finishes we have available for fire rated timber doors.
Full range of finishes
New for this year, we have introduced a whole new range of finishes to choose from for fire rated, non-fire rated and PAS 24 timber doors. In the range, we have a variety of colours to suit any design aspirations. There is something for all interiors available, we introduced the new range to add more of a variety for architects and still provide a fully compliant fire rated timber door.
Alongside our wide range of specification options for architects, we also have stocked sizes and finishes if you are in the Passive Fire Protection, Housing Association or Retrofit industry. We understand that you need to be able to procure timber doorsets quickly, so we have a stocked range to ensure for rapid dispatch. Our adjustable architrave system allows for 20mm fitting tolerance on-site, which means our stocked items can fit any structural opening. We have five stocked finishes including: Light Oak, Mid Oak, Slate Grey, Chalk White and Ready-to-Paint (RTP).
Range of Ironmongery
When selecting ironmongery for your doorset, we have a range to choose from. We have a selection for non-fire rated, FD30 and FD60. When specifying a fire rated timber doorset, you have a collection of handles to choose from. These finishes include satin stainless steel, silver, dark bronze and satin brass to help best suit your doorset. A wide range of our kick plates and letter plates are fire rated and can be used on our fire rated timber doors. Fire rated latches, cylinders and escutcheons are also available for your doorset. Finally, we have a range of ancillaries you can add from door viewer to a door knocker. In this range of ironmongery, you will be able to find the best ironmongery to suit your door and project.
When choosing ironmongery, it is important to make sure it is compliant with your doorset, if it is not this will affect the fire rating of your doorset. The building regulations will tell you what fire rating your doorset needs to be. It is important to follow these as it keeps the building and the people in it safe.

Laminate vs Veneers
When helping architects specify the best timber doorset for their project, we often get asked what we recommend more laminate or veneer. Both of these can be used for non-fire rated and fire rated doors. Laminate is our most popular door finish as it provides a more durable and moisture-resistant door than veneer, whilst still providing a quality finish.
